Gilman Presents on TCPA, Trademark Infringement to KU Students

Partner Stacey Gilman presented a virtual guest lecture on the TCPA, consumer consent, and privacy issues, and trademark infringement, to a marketing course at the University of Kansas on April 1, 2020. Stacey served as Associate Editor for the  Michigan Telecommunications and Technology Law Review  while in law school at the University of Michigan , and has been named a Super Lawyer for Business Litigation for many years.

U.S. Department of Labor Issues FAQs Regarding New Paid Leave laws

The U.S. Department of Labor ( DOL ) has issued additional guidance on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) by providing a series of FAQs. In the FAQs, the DOL addresses a number of issues including calculation of the 500-employee threshold, potential exemptions for small businesses (fewer than 50 employees), calculating rates of pay, documentation requirements, telework, intermittent leave, furloughs, and “top off” policies. Wieland Presents to Elementary School Students on Being a Lawyer

Partner Jennifer Wieland presented on being a lawyer to students at Career Awareness Day at Prairie Ridge Elementary in Shawnee, Kansas on February 12, 2020. She discussed what lawyers do, why they are important in our society, and school subjects that are helpful preparation for law school. Wieland was named a 2019 Super Lawyer for Business Litigation.

The firm held its annual Chili Cook-off competition on October 17. The Chili Cook-off coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month every October. The event is held to honor firm employees Lynne Clark and Lois Steward. This year’s Chili Champion was Tony Durone , whose “Secret Ingredient Chili” topped the eight entries. David Oliver has been awarded the Branton/Hall Community Collaborator Award for 2019 by the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri .
