Tim West Wins Summary Judgment in District of Kansas Defamation Case

Tim West obtained summary judgment for a firm client that owns Hillcrest Country Club in Kansas City. Following an article on Golf.com concerning the golf course that referenced statements made by persons affiliated with Hillcrest, plaintiff sued both the entity that owns the golf course and the publisher of Golf.com. Plaintiff alleged that statements made about him in the article caused the defendants to be liable to him under theories of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Berkowitz Oliver partners Tim Millman and Nick DiVita won a jury verdict for client Ford Motor Company in federal court in Chicago on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. The plaintiff in the case claimed he was discharged in retaliation for seeking workers’ comp benefits and sought millions in alleged damages. Ford is a Fortune 100 company and long-time client of Berkowitz Oliver.
