Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block Receive 2024 Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award

On October 17, 2024, Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block were honored with the 2024 Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP) Award at Legal Aid of Western Missouri’s “Party with a Purpose” event. This award is a testament to the firms’ unwavering dedication to providing pro bono legal services through the Arthur Federman Immigration Clinic.

The Citizenship Clinic, jointly organized by Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block, has become a flagship pro bono initiative for both organizations. At their second annual clinic on August 23, 2024, volunteers successfully assisted 17 clients with their Applications for Naturalization (N-400), helping them take crucial steps toward becoming U.S. citizens. The clinic is named in honor of retired Judge Arthur Federman, whose personal story of immigration has inspired his lifelong dedication to supporting others seeking citizenship.

During the event, which gathered volunteer attorneys, judges, city council members, and commissioners, Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block were acknowledged for their vital contributions to the VAP program. The clinic was highlighted as a significant example of how legal professionals can drive meaningful change in their communities through pro bono service.

Both firms’ volunteers, including attorneys and paralegals, were commended for their dedication and hard work in making the clinic a success. The collaborative spirit between Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block was further celebrated, with both teams receiving recognition for their shared efforts to make a lasting impact in the lives of Kansas City’s immigrant population.

As the Arthur Federman Immigration Clinic continues to thrive, Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block remain committed to partnering with Legal Aid of Western Missouri. Both Berkowitz Oliver and H&R Block look forward to continuing their mission of providing critical pro bono assistance to individuals navigating the path to U.S. citizenship.
